It’s no coincidence that every year begins during Capricorn season. As the calendar turns, we fix our eyes on the future, intent on becoming more successful versions of ourselves. Most of us set some sort of vague New Year’s Resolution but never manage to pull it together and end up leaving a trail of wasted gym memberships in our wake.
That’s not how Capricorn rolls.
In fact, there is arguably no sign in the zodiac more determined and successful at achieving their goals than the sign of the Goat.
If you have any personal planets in Capricorn (especially your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Mercury, Mars), 10th house planets, or a prominently placed Saturn, then lucky you—you have some direct access to the Capricorn powerhouse. But those without obvious Capricorn energy aren’t doomed to a lifetime of unfulfilled New Year’s Resolutions. All of us channel Capricorn energy in some area of our lives, so it’s just a matter of tapping into your own personal reserve.
Let’s look at a few of the reasons Capricorns are successful, and use those strategies to help find a few resolutions that you won’t give up on next week.
#1 – Capricorn is realistic about their goals.
That’s not to say that Capricorn doesn’t dream big. Hardly. Capricorn-types set extremely high expectations for themselves, and for society as a whole. The difference between Capricorn and a sign like idealistic Sagittarius, is that practical Capricorn intuitively knows not to waste its energy on unrealistic objectives. Capricorn plainly sees the restrictions of the world it faces, and conserves its energy to take on large-scale responsibilities. This mature, no-nonsense approach helps Capricorn avoid the painful reality-check moment that often crushes the spirit of other signs.
Determine what you’re realistically capable of achieving. No need to bite off more than you can chew.
Possible Resolutions: Not quite ready to take on the weight of the world like Capricorn? Start with attainable self-care goals like…
- Make your bed every morning
- Take a daily multivitamin
- Stop letting dishes pile up
- Read a book before bed instead of staring at a screen
#2 – Capricorn sets themselves up for success.
Capricorn is the ruler of the astrological 10th house, and the highest point of the natal chart, the Midheaven. This point represents our career purpose, our role in society, and how we present ourselves to the world at-large. Whether Capricorn aspires to the role of President, CEO, or world-renowned artist—the core ambition is the same—Capricorn wants to be respected.
Capricorn knows that worldly respect is hard-earned and will go to great lengths to maintain a good reputation by moving in the right circles, making responsible choices, and taking advantage of opportunities. Any bad habits or influences that don’t suit their ultimate goal must be put aside. Remember, Capricorn chose a goal they knew they could achieve—however ambitious—so they know that all sacrifices will be well worth it in the end.
What habits, environments, or people are holding you back? Take steps to minimize or remove these influences from your life, and replace them with ones that serve your goals.
Possible Resolutions: Make moves to build your confidence and motivate yourself like…
- Set up a cool workspace at home, or find a coffee shop that inspires you to get work done
- Professionalize your social media
- Get serious about skincare and put your best face forward
- Unfollow the people who bum you out or irritate you on social media
- Cut out one unhealthy food vice
#3 – Capricorn doesn’t give up, no matter how daunting a challenge may seem.
This last one is the hardest to achieve for most signs, so how does Capricorn pull it off? Capricorn is the sign of the Goat—technically a mythical sea-goat—but for our purposes let’s call Capricorn a mountain goat. Mountain goats are impressive climbers, often scaling vertical rock faces to reach surprising heights. Similarly, Capricorn sees an obstacle separating them from their ultimate goal and accepts that they must push past it. No whining, just doing. Capricorn knows the climb won’t be easy. They recognize it’s gonna take time and grueling work. But Capricorn is willing to play the long game to achieve their aims. The climb may be rough, but it makes the view from the top just that much sweeter.
Of course we can’t expect this level of unwavering commitment from all signs, but we can all set ourselves up to feel better while we’re taking on challenges and boost our chances of success.
What are some things you already do that make you feel good? Strike a balance between these things, and the new goals you’re working toward.
Possible Resolutions: While climbing that mountain, remember to be kind to yourself, try things like…
- Keep a simple mindfulness practice like meditation, 5-10 minutes a day
- Vow to spend more time in nature
- Reconnect with your artistic inner child by doodling or buying an adult coloring book
- Make time to treat yourself once a week with a relaxing bath or a good meal
- Subscribe to a podcast or YouTube channel you enjoy and listen/watch faithfully
Are you a Capricorn-type who’s currently dealing with self-doubt or discouragement? Let this season serve as a reminder of your inherent power and drive. You are so capable, so worthy of the respect you seek. You will get there. You’re well on your way.
As we all embark on our New Year’s pursuits, it’s easy to forget the value of appreciating where we are. Remember, there’s no need to reserve the celebration exclusively for the summit. The view along the climb can be just as beautiful, especially when you look back and realize how far you’ve come.
Happy New Year! You got this.
